This issue of Czech Business Today provides you with an opportunity to get acquainted with Czech business environment and major issues concerning small and medium size enterprises in the Czech Republic as well as positions of Czech business associations on topics, which are high on EU agenda.

This issue pays the attention to the immigration policy, especially to the Czech proposal of so called green cards aiming to make easier employment of highly qualified third-countries nationals in the Czech Republic. We interviewed Mr. Přemysl SOBOTKA, president of the Czech Senate, about this matter as well as about the European Commission's concept of Blue Cards. Also Mr. Martin JAHN, Vice-President of the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic gave us the comments on this issue.

We have had the chance to interview H.E. Vladimir MULLER, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Belgium, about the Czech-Belgian commercial relations and official opening of the Czech House at Rue du Trone 60 in Brussels. This issue is devoted to the climate change policy, especially to the Czech national allocation plan for CO2 emissions from the point of view of Czech businesses. We have had the chance to interview Mr. Martin Říman, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, about the suit against the European Commission with regard to a reduction of the requested quantity of emission permits and about the EU-ETS in general.

This issue is devoted to the evaluation of the 3 years membership of the Czech Republic in the EU from the point of view of Czech businesses. We have had the chance to interview Mr. Alexandr Vondra, the Czech Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs of the Czech Republic, about the positive and negative impact for Czech businesses and their role during the preparation and realization of the Czech Council Presidency in 2009.

Entrepreneurial Project of the Year was awarded in six categories selecting from over 2500 projects supported by the Operational program Industry and Entrepreneurship. Space is also devoted to the foreign trade of the Czech Republic and Czech investments in Romania and Bulgaria.

Czech Business Today is this time devoted to labor law from both, Czech national as well as European perspective. We interviewed Mr. Petr Nečas, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Czech Republic about the need of modernization of European labor law. The Minister criticizes, in accordance with Czech employers, the new Czech Labor Code, which was endorsed by the previous government and entered in force in January 2007. Next you can find the positions of Czech businesses regarding the new Labor Code. The Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic took a position on the Green Paper on Modernization of Labor Law.

The new Czech right-wing government received its vote of confidence in mid-January. You can find the summary of the government priorities.
